After publishing the Papercuts Library #4 – Vindication of the United States Postal Service, we were greatly relieved to stop soaking in the painful story of the USPS on a daily basis, but sadly recent news has brought back that pain in Godfather III style…

With Postmaster General DeJoy’s unveiling of his Delivering for America plan yesterday, our main takeaway was that the USPS will remain in dire trouble as long as DeJoy remains in charge.

Rather than correct course after the mail delays he has directly helped create over the last year, he has publicly stated his intention to make them a permanent feature of a new and slower postal service…

This guy has to go. He either has no idea what he’s doing, or is willingly trying to hurt the USPS. That’s not the part to argue about though. His incompetence has been on full display since he walked through the door.

Thankfully first steps have been taken for showing DeJoy back through that door, with President Biden announcing nominees for three vacancies on the USPS Board of Governors in February. However, there are a growing number of calls to fire the entirety of the current Board, along with DeJoy, who has a whole Wikipedia page dedicated to the mess he created shortly after getting the job he was never qualified for: 2020 United States Postal Service crisis.

So this week, the way to save the USPS is to contact with the White House and let Biden know the USPS is an issue you care about and that he needs to do whatever it takes to save our postal service from another Postmaster General who wants to throw in the towel rather than fight for what the USPS needs to do its job as a basic and fundamental service.

Slower mail service is an unacceptable strategy for a future that is only going to be moving faster, and as such we need a new Postmaster General, ASAP!

The White House comment line is still closed because of COVID, so please email the President instead. Here’s a sample appeal if you don’t have time to write up your own:

Dear President Biden, Postmaster General DeJoy must go! His vision for the future of the USPS is a bleak one that will not only slow down the mail, but slow down America. Please do whatever you can to save the USPS from DeJoy’s incompetence and help find a real leader for our beloved postal system.

BONUS: If you live in AZ, CA, DE, FL, GA, KY, MI, MO, NH, NV, OH, OK, UT, or WI, one of your senators is on the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which is the committee considering the new USPS Board of Governors nominees.

If you want to go the extra mile to help save the USPS this week, call your senator’s DC office and urge them to confirm Anton George Hajjar, Amber Faye McReynolds, and Ronald Stroman for the USPS Board of Governors posthaste!
